Short functional text is a short text that has particular
meaning an purpose, and used in our daily life.
The Types of Short Functional
Text
1. 1. Notice
The function of notice;
1)
Prohibition notifies people not to do something.
2)
Caution or warning warns people to be careful in
handling something.
3)
Guidance gives information to people to do
something appropriately.
4)
The informational notice provides information
that could be useful for people.
2. 2. Invitation
We use this type of text when we are going
to invite family, friends, and people to attend an event. (To invite someone to
attend an occasion.)
Example of invitations;
1)
Wedding invitation
2)
Birthday invitation
Characteristics of
invitations;
1)
Having an accurate addressee.
2)
Giving clear time, place, and activity.
3)
Providing sufficient information about the
inviter.
4)
Expressing that the writer is looking forward to
seeing person.

We often encounter through print media, and
electronic media, like discount advertisement.
4. 4. Announcement
To provide and clear information about
certain events or occasion. We often encounter this type of text in public
areas, at schools, at hospitals, etc.
Characteristics of announcement;

Straight forward and ease the readers to get
information quickly.
2)
Keep it short, inviting, and to the point.
3)
Clear and complete.
4)
For bad news, make a direct and no-nonsense
statement.
5. 5. Short Message
To send an important message to other
people. This short message can be in the form of SMS, E-Mail, and memo.
Characteristics of Short Message;
1)
Clear addressee (someone who receives the
message).
2)
Straight forward.
3)
If it is an instruction state it clearly.
6. 6. Shopping List
Planning regarding shopping lists compiled
before shopping.
7. 7. Greeting Card
As an expression of sympathy and care to
others. The purpose is to congratulate someone’s achievements, express sympathy
on someone and motivate someone on gaining achievement.
Characteristics of Greeting Card;
1)
Clarify a clear purpose.
2)
Use an appraisal diction.
3)
Accurate addressee.
